Tweakup's Wicked DigiDice™ Mod
Here's
some food for thought: hardware website Tweakup had a chance to test and
evaluate the DigiDice™. They were so impressed, that not only did they
give it a perfect 100 score, but also decided to perform an awesome water-cooled
modification on the DigiDice™.
TweakUp
talks a little about the design of DigiDice™: "This is the first try from
ABIT on a barebone computer system, and they've hit extremely well and
wide in their first attempt. We've seen other manufactures making similar
products without having the wide opportunities that ABIT delivers in the
DigiDice. When talking about the design, we're not in doubt that that
alone will sell many machines. Since it can easily be disguised as - for
instance - a stereo, since the "computer look" easily can be
covered if needed.
How
was the performance? "On the performance side there's no doubt
that DigiDice lives up to the 2003 standard, and nothing is missing on
the little motherboard that can create any doubt on whether this machine
is good enough as a gaming platform...The bundle for the machine is in
a league of its own, right from what's needed for installing to when it's
in use. The bag is the extra plus that heavily underlines the fact, that
the ABIT DigiDice is and will become a Gaming machine."
The
conclusion: "The ABIT DigiDice turns the Tweak'O meter all the
way around, even though we found some minor flaws in the product. But
the general picture of DigiDice can't be touched by those small things,
and ABIT has in so many ways accomplished to fulfill the demands and wishes
for such a barebone system, and even added some extra for the user. We
can only say one thing: Game it and DigiDice it."
Next, TweakUp decided to do a separate article featuring their ultra-cool
modification of the DigiDice™. Here's what the editors had planned: "After
the first review of the ABIT DigiDice, which became a huge success, I
started thinking that water-cooling had to be possible within the cabinet
even though it's very small. The project had to be with internal water-cooling,
so it would remain portable and easy to move around."
So
how did it all turn out? "The result speaks for itself, since
the machine now could be overclocked pretty far, well over 3GHz on a 2.4C
CPU. The temperature is 15'c lower than the standard system and the best
of it all is, that the noise from the DigiDice now is extremely low. I
had to make some blowpipes in the top of the cabinet so the liquid cooler
could get cold air to the fans."
