BE6: “Motherboard of the Millennium”

—Hardware Extreme

Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C. Wednesday, January 05, 2000With ABIT’s BE6-II motherboard topping sales charts (see here) Terry, Editor-In-Chief of Hardware Extreme decided to cast a discerning eye upon the board’s progenitor, the BE6.  Not only did he find it to be a great motherboard (a hard act to follow, but indeed we here at ABIT found a way), he also gave it a nine out of ten rating and declared it the “Motherboard of the Millennium.”

Right out of the box, Hardware Extreme was impressed with the BE6’s accessories and features: Just like any other ABIT mainboard, the BE6 comes with a very nicely written manual, floppy & IDE cables as well as one of the new expensive UDMA/66 cables and a thermal heat sensor ! ABIT also includes a CD-ROM with a decent bundle of utilities, the latest version of ABIT's website (after their redesign) and also manuals for all the mainboards in PDF format. Some manufacturers now include their mainboard manuals in the CD only and not printed versions. ABIT is different and they have provided both a very well printed version and also a digital copy.”

Installation, too, gave “no problems,” but it was performance that really counted:  “We compared the BE6 to the ASUS P3B and it was indeed faster than the ASUS P3B! The BE6 has top-of-the line stability as well during normal and overclocked operation as well and the decision to include a great manual, UDMA/66 cables and a temperature sensor makes it even better. The i820 Camino might just be around the corner, but if you get a BE6 now, it will last you well into the next millennium.”

In summary: “Just like any ABIT mainboard, the BE6 has proven to be a great all rounder in HELabs. It has everything you'd want from a top-of-the line mainboard. We compared the BE6 to the ASUS P3B and it was indeed faster than the ASUS P3B! The BE6 has top-of-the line stability as well during normal and overclocked operation as well and the decision to include a great manual, UDMA/66 cables and a temperature sensor makes it even better… Congratulations to ABIT for a superb job on the BE6!”
